About

Interlace Commons

We aim to connect people with information about the functionality and implementation strategies of ancient and modern forms of agroforestry. We achieve this by exploring the intersectionality of two siloed disciplines – agriculture and forestry – through programming and farm-driven research initiatives supported by academic and community partners.

Farm Forward

Farmers steward our natural resources, stitching together their livelihoods while tending agricultural landscapes. They sustain our communities while growing soil, food, medicine, and fiber. As such, efforts to scale up agroforestry in the northeastern United States will be farmer-driven.

Our Commitment to Racial, Gender, and Economic Justice

There is a reckoning unfolding in the agricultural sector. One that identifies calls out, and makes us all accountable for the racism and sexism that runs rampant and unchecked in our critical work to protect and enhance agricultural landscapes. We at Interlace Commons welcome these conversations. We are deeply committed to working for racial, gender, and economic justice and equity, particularly regarding land access, ownership, and representation in the agricultural and environmental sectors.

In practice, this means we work to build partnerships with Queer, Trans, Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (QTBIPOC) organizations, farmers, and leaders; engage QTBIPOC voices and perspectives in our work; and raise awareness of the need to increase access, ownership, and representation.
